It is true that Russian plays a significant role in space exploration. Astronauts who visit the International Space Station (ISS) undergo training in the Russian language because the Soyuz spacecraft, which is used for transportation to and from the ISS, is operated using Russian systems. Russian is used in communications between astronauts and mission control, as well as in various technical manuals and documentation.
